WHAT IS TRACHEO-OESOPHAGEAL FISTULA?
Tracheo-oesophageal fistula is most often associated with oesophageal atresia. It involves an abnormal connection between the oesophagus and the trachea (the duct that brings air to the lungs). These two ducts are normally separated.
This abnormal connection may lead to deviation of food towards the trachea and thus to the lungs, provoking serious respiratory problems.
WHAT IS THE TREATMENT?
The tracheo-oesophageal fistula is closed by surgery.
