WHAT IS DIAPHRAGMATIC EVENTRATION?
Diaphragmatic eventration corresponds to an abnormally high position of the diaphragm without communication between the abdominal and thoracic cavities. It is a rare congenital malformation, often asymptomatic and discovered by chance.
An X-ray of the thorax from the front and side as well as an MRI can confirm a diagnosis of diaphragmatic eventration.
WHAT IS THE TREATMENT?
Not all diaphragmatic eventrations will require surgery. Surgery is used only in cases of significant diaphragmatic eventration leading to breathing and/or digestive difficulties.
